Global work for justice

News Update – July 2021

Brian O’Toole, (Director of the Interprovincial Justice Desk see HERE ) recently attended a meeting of the IPA Justice Contacts from around the world, with a view to planning how we might work together as we prepare for the 8th IPA Assembly in Newfoundland in 2022.

Since the last Assembly (Sydney, 2017) the IPA has been tasked with working together on Priority Action 2—To honour and Advance Care / Rights of the Earth and we have been grouped with others (see right) who are similarly engaged in working in this area of Justice.

Importantly, as the world prepares for COP26, postponed from last year,  we see our work as an opportunity to learn and disseminate on COP26 as we try to discern all that we can and could do to advance the rights of the Earth as we work to ensure that those furthest behind are offered a place of prominence in all that we plan.

Given that the IPA UN focus is on the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Children we are also looking at Priority Area 2, where the Rights of our Earth and the issues facing women and children overlap, so that we can have more impactful actions that involve those in our communities at home.

IPA Research Fellow Post

The International Presentation Association (IPA) will be leading an in-depth research project focused on various aspects of the elimination of violence against women and children, such as transforming gender stereo-types. The Research Fellow will contribute to this research by conducting an in-depth study, inter alia, on the pathways, approaches & policies of changing gender stereotypes/norms and for bringing about transformative change. The position requires a good understanding of contemporary issues in violence against women and children, as well as experience in applying quantitative and qualitative research methods. Review of applications will begin August 10, 2021. See Home – International Presentation Association  for full details (click on relevant Banner on top of website home page).

IPA Matters

Ann Marie Quinn, pbvm – Executive Director, IPA.

You can keep up to date on all matters IPA by reading their regular Newsletter – ‘IPA Matters’. In the second issue  in June 2021, Sr. Ann Marie Quinn, pbvm (Executive Director of the IPA) writes in her opening message:

“The way we live and work these days has been irrevocably altered but not dominated by the COVID-19 landscape that surrounds us. Because of our commitment to working for global justice from a contemplative stance, in unity with the whole of creation, we are people of hope. In the words of Raphael Consedine, pbvm speaking of the work of Nano Nagle: “She did not spend her energies on anger or on violence in response to injustice, nor did she let herself be paralysed by the magnitude of the problems around her. Accepting the suffering which her decisions entailed, she gave to others the gift of life and of a future”.
