Presentation Sisters have a “culture of vocations” within the congregation. This means that everyone has a sense of responsibility for nurturing and supporting the seeds of vocation in all who approach the community as enquirers, searchers and discerners.
In our community settings there is an opportunity to hear the stories of those who have lived Presentation life through the ups and downs of many years of commitment. There is also an opportunity to learn about the challenges and enrichment of inter-cultural religious life, when returned missionaries tell stories of their experiences in Africa, Asia and South America. Some of these stories are shared by sisters who have been pioneers of new missions or by those sisters who have lived in great danger from war, military dictatorship and famine. Holding Nano Nagle’s flame of hope and compassion knows no boundaries.
Community members can pray by name for those who are listening for the call of the Spirit in their lives. All community members are missionary in that they are women who are endlessly creative in finding new ways to share the good news of the Gospel. As missionaries, Presentation Sisters go wherever people are held captive by outer circumstance or inner struggles.
Today those seeking accompaniment in their joys and hopes; fears and anxieties may meet Presentation Sisters in the digital missionary territories of blogging, tweeting, insta-gramming and web-posting.
Presentation Sisters acknowledge, with Pope Francis, that:
The essence of consecrated life goes beyond what it does… what it is in itself is more important than what it does. (Pope Francis in conversation with Fernando Prado, CMF, 2018).
In its intense attraction to a relationship of the heart with God, women such as Gabrielle choose, through a novitiate programme to prepare in periods of solitude for the covenant which consecrated life requires. Over the next months through a novitiate programme of scripture, liturgy. community prayer, reflective living and compassionate service Gabrielle will prepare in Portlaoise community for the covenant of first vows.
